Charter: Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is oriented towards global relations, cooperation and collaboration between Oracle , the IOUC and the global independent users community. The committee is not a replacement to the communications committees of its constituent member organizations, but rather exists to help coordinate international communication and leverage coordinated messages worldwide to the benefit of Oracle users.

Objectives

  • The committee should ensure the communication of IOUC objectives, activities, benefits and achievements to the entire Oracle users community (including members and non-members of IOUC constituent groups).
  • Communicate to the Oracle community at large the positive, valuable, influential, and unique relationship that the IOUC enjoys with Oracle, and the extent of the close cooperation we sustain with Oracle. This includes coordinating international public relations and media activity as directed by our constituent users groups.
  • Recommend useful application interfaces, standards, information protocols, and design templates amongst the constituent groups so that they may avoid duplication, improve/expand service offerings, and communicate the unity of our mission.
  • Establish information flow amongst the constituent users groups and Oracle to ensure activities and services are synergistic rather than competitive. This must include the earliest possible publication of the long-term major event calendar, factoring commercial confidentialities together with planning and promotion timeframes.
Skill Sets for Committee Members

Committee members should be articulate and able to express themselves well. Professional experience in communications is not a requirement, as staff and public relations agencies can provide polish. Involvement in communications at work in some capacity is advantageous. Other skills required would include strategic thinking capability, ability to direct staff and follow up effectively, team work, an understanding of Oracle and the user base. An ability to keep clear which communications are private amongst IOUC representatives for planning purposes and which communications are for external publication is essential.

Time Commitment

Conference call meetings will be scheduled approximately twice a month. Ad-hoc meetings will occur as required for specific items, which may require up to a week inclusive of travel. Research and content development may sometimes be required. Non ad-hoc time should not be in excess of eight hours per month.

Committee Composition

The ideal number would be a representative from each constituent group. The committee may include representatives not on a constituent member board, but any such members must be duly authorized by a constituent group and must agree to be bound by any confidentiality requirements of the committee. The IOUC community may from time to time appoint liaisons to the communications committee representing a users group that is not an IOUC member organization.
